‘Examination of epic proportions’: Democratic governors react to the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles during the House Hearing on the Immigration Policy

Illinois’s high profile Democratic governors, Minnesota and New York defended the immigration policies of their states on Thursday in a supervision committee of the House of Representatives led by Republicans, with a support on the ongoing protests of Los Angeles on the application of immigration.

JB Pritzker from Illinois, Tim Walz by Minnesota and Kathy Hochul from New York asked questions from the camera panel, many of them dealing with their policies such as the so -called “Sanctuary States”. His testimony occurred when another state led by Democrat, California, is dealing with a series of protests related to immigration that caused President Donald Trump to display the US marines and the National Guard in the area.

The Sanctuary states still enforce federal federal immigration laws, but the term often refers to a limited collaboration with the application of immigration and customs of the United States while promulgating policies that are more favorable for undocumented people.

‘An epic proportions’ overreach’

The governors criticized Trump’s decision to deploy troops in Los Angeles, and Hochul said the actions “undermine the sovereignty of individual states.”

“The governors are the commanders in chief of the National Guard. They know what to do, as you have heard of my colleagues, we have deployed them several times. But the confidence in the application of the local law: basically, you are saying that there is no belief that the highly trained people of our municipal police departments such as Los Angeles and the city of New York … can handle [their] Jobs, “said Hochul, added that it is” an overreach of epic proportions. “

Pritzker added that the decision goes against the typical protocol, which “tends to have an flamming effect.” And Walz said it is important that the governors and the federal government coordinate, especially when it comes to the National Guard.

“The absolute pinnacle and the most critical piece is coordination between them. As governor, which is not notified as a application of local law, creates a chaotic situation that cannot operate as a joint unit,” said Walz.

The hearing began with a burning statement of the Stephen Lynch classification member attacking Trump and his administration for its immigration policies. Reference to Los Angeles protests, Lynch said that deploying the military against civilians is “wrong.”

“I am proud of my Democratic colleagues who are willing to face this bully. Trump is an aspiring gangster, and is showing the world what it is about,” said Massachusetts’s Democrat.

Stefanik, Jordan Face with Hochul

Republicans in the Chamber Panel repeatedly indicated specific incidents in each of the Governor’s states about US citizens who injure or murder at the hands of undocumented people.

The New York representative, Elise Stefanik, first dismissed Hochul on individual cases of violence in New York at the hands of immigrants, repeatedly highlighting the crime in “New York of Kathy Hochul.” Later at the audience, Ohio Jim Jordan’s representative dedicated himself to similar questions with New York governor.

“These are horrible crimes, crimes that are committed in their surveillance,” said Stefanik, and then added that the governor was “prioritizing his state -left sanctuary policies,” a statement that Hochul denied.

Governors insist that immigration is a job for Congress

Republicans in the committee accused the governors of supervising an increase in crime and blocking the application of ICE law and actions.

“I invited these governors here because, like the executive directors of their states, they deliberately ignore a federal law, protect illegal foreigners and approve the cost of free services in their taxpayers of hard work,” said the president of supervision of the house, James Eat.

The governors retreated, saying that immigration in the country is administered by the federal government.

“While this audience has gathered to explore the issue of the so -called ‘Sanctuary states’, Minnesota is not even a sanctuary,” Walz said. “The Minnesota Legislature has not approved said bill that makes the state of the Minnesota sanctuary, and I have not signed said law. Minnesota cooperates with the federal authorities in several ways.”

“But enforcing the immigration law is not the role of local and state governments. The fact is that Congress has provided federal agencies the authority to enforce immigration laws in this country that includes Minnesota, and I support them. Therefore, it is the federal government’s work to ensure the border,” Walz added.

The governors also denounced some of Trump’s immigration platforms and recent movements, asking for a “compassionate” policy.

“As I have constantly said, violent criminals do not take place in our streets and if they are undocumented, I want them out of Illinois and outside our country,” said Pritzker in his opening statement.

In March, the Supervision Committee held another journalistic hearing with the mayors of the “Sanctuary City”, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, the mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson, the mayor of Denver, Mike Johnston, and the mayor of the city of New York, Eric Adams. These leaders defended their actions on the application of immigration, while the Republicans in the committee accused them of increasing crime by challenging the immigration policies of the Trump administration.
